I like keeping in touch with my friends through chatting to them on MSN, Skype and Facebook. Apart from schoolmates, I have a few overseas net friends who would chat with me when they are online. One of my overseas friends is from Australia. Her name is Zerahiah. I met her in three years ago when I joined a study tour program in Australia.

It cannot be denied that (無可否認) I was depressed when I chatted with an Australian at the beginning. My Australia friends replied to me very fast and often used difficult words to express themselves. So it took me some time to check the dictionary word by word. In addition, she always used abbreviations, such as lol, bbl, btw, which I could not find in dictionaries. I thought about giving up chatting with them, but I knew I could not solve the problem like this.

I tried to get what she meant. I asked “what is the meaning of this and that?” when she used an abbreviation. She answered me “lol is laughing out loud, bbl is be back later and btw is by the way and so on”. I found out the meaning of abbreviations at first, but I was worried she would not chat with me anymore because I replied so slowly. At the very moment, I decided to skip the words which I didn't know. I guessed the meaning and used my own vocabulary. Eventually, we managed to (能夠) share our learning experience and our school life.

I was surprised that I could overcome the fear to take the initiative. With a friend who is a native English speaker, not only could I integrate myself into another culture, but also I may use abbreviations when chatting with her. I feel happy because I can use my English knowledge in my daily life, which can effectively improve my grammar and usage.

At the very moment, I decided to skip the words when I do not know what were the meanings. I guessed the meanings and I tried to build up my vocabulary power. We were able to share learning experiences of our school lives eventually.

Communicating with a native English speaker, I could learn about the English language as well as their culture. I feel happy that I can learn English through this channel which can improve my grammar and usage of the language effectively.

I feel happy that merge English learning into daily life, this can be effectively improve grammar and the usage of English.
