"He sentenced Tom to 10 months jail,
suspended for two years on entering a good behaviour bond."

What does this mean? So does Tom go to jail immediately, or does he go to jail 2 years after?
If someone can help me clarifying this sentence, I would deeply appreciate it. Many thanks.

Suspended sentences are commonly imposed in order to alleviate the strain on overcrowded prisons. For example, an individual may be sentenced to a six months' jail, wholly suspended for one year. If they commit any other offence during that year, the original jail term is immediately applied.

So in this case he will have to be on good behaviour bond for two years and then serve his ten months jail term.

hope this helped
