concentration, molarity

what is the difference between concentration and molarity ?
According to my chemistry book,
concentration of a solution = mass of solute(g) / volume of solution(dm^3)
molarity of a solution = no. of moles of solute / volume of solution (dm^3)

but sometimes I think they seems to be the same, how can I distinguish them?

Concentration of a solution is defined as “the amount of solute in a certain amount of solution”. Therefore, there are many types of concentration such as :
- mass of solute / volume of solution
- mass of solute / mass of solution
- volume of solute / volume of solution
- no. of moles of solute / volume of solution
- no. of moles of solute / mass of solution
…….. etc.
Conclusively, concentration = (amount of solute) / (amount of solution)
and the “amount” can be mass (in any unit), volume (in any unit), no. of moles, etc.

Molarity of a solution is specific type of concentration. In molarity, the amount of solute must be no. of moles of the solute, and the amount of solution must be volume of the solution in dm³.

Calculation of pH must be based on molarity.

In Form 4, you can do in this way.

Nice to meet you~
mass of solute(g) / volume of solution(dm^3)
or
no. of moles of solute / vol. of solution (dm^3)

no. of moles of solute / vol. of solution (dm^3)

mass of solute(g) / volume of solution(dm^3)

Hope this can help you^_^
