suppose a system of monoatomic ideal gas at 3x10^5 pa and an initial temperature of 293K slowly expands at constant pressure from a volume of 1 L to 1.25 L as the temperature gets higher.

a)Find the change in internal energy of the gas
b)use the first law of thermodynamics to obtain the thermal energy absorbed by the gas during the process.

a. By PV = nRT

(3 X 10^5)(1 X 10^-3) = nR(293)

nR = 300/293

Now, once again, PV' = nRT'

(3 X 10^5)(1.25 X 10^-3) = (300/293)T'

Final temperature, T' = 366.25 K

So, the change in internal energy

= 3/2 nR(T' - T)

= 3/2 (300/293)(366.25 - 293)

= 112.5 J

b. Thermal energy absorbed

= P(V' - V)

= (3 X 10^5)(1.25 - 1) X 10^-3

= 75 J
