A. Let's revive XP system first.
Tip: To force Windows shutdown-----press and hold the power button for a few seconds.
1. If you can boot into XP desktop, back up all your files then click Start, > Run. Type cmd and enter. At prompt, type sfc.exe /scannow (don't
forget the space before the /scannow). Insert your XP CD then follow instructions until finished. This will quickly repair the corrupted Windows system files to get back into normal operation.
2. If it fails or you can't boot into Windows, restart and quickly insert the XP CD. XP will load set up files then restart to install. Follow instructions and get to select R for Repair. Do not go for Recovery or Format otherwise you'lll lose all your data and end up with a clean Widows' system. Now continue with the normal selections for XP settings etc until finished. Your system should be normal when rebooted.
Tip: Make sure you set the CD-rom as No. 1 in boot sequence in your BIOS so the CD will run. HDD should be No. 2 and always leave it this way.
B. If repair didn't fix IE, uninstall it in Control panel then reinstall. Clean the orphan files in your system with freeware such as FCleaner_v1.2.7.1127 at:
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/security/system_cleanup/fcleaner.cfm
Free and easy. Cleans registry lightning fast and accurate.
C. If you can't surf the net, read your router manual and reset it to default settings then get into the interface and re-enter your ISP settings (ISP name, your password etc). It should work after you log off then switch it off and on (i. e. power cycle).
Hope these will solve your problem. Good luck.

You don't need the serial key for repair installation. It's only needed for a clean installation.
