I need to write some dialogues for a newspaper,
to teach children English. And the following is my script, can you please
check if it is well written and grammatical? If you have any suggestions,
please tell me. Thanks!

Ben: The 2010 world cup is coming soon!

Sally: Do you know where it takes place?

Ben: Yes, I heard South Africa would be hosting it this year.

Sally: And do you know when it starts?

Ben: Yes, my brother told me that it will start on the fifth of June.

Sally: Look, they are playing soccer.

Ben: Let’s go to the soccer field and watch them play.

Sally: I don’t know anything about soccer.

Ben: Don’t worry, I will explain to you.

Ben: He is the goalkeeper. He is responsible for defending the goal.

Ben: He is the forward. He is responsible for scoring goals.

Ben: He is the defender. He is responsible for defending the opposite team from scoring.

There are a couple corrections that can be made. The one sentence should be "Yes, I heard South Africa WILL be hosting it this year." Also, Combine the last four "Ben" parts. You should only separate sentences when indicating another person is in speaking.

English originated in England, and is a West Germanic language which built from Old English, the language of the Anglo-Saxons. As a influence of the Norman Conquest and different parties in English historical past, it's been closely stimulated, greater than another Germanic language, by way of French and Latin.

I agree with the previous post, but I'd also change "defending the opposite team from scoring" to "keeping the other team from scoring."

And you could say "June fifth" instead of "the fifth of June," but that's just a little detail. Either way would be correct, as far as I can see.
