3t + 1 < t + 12
3t + 1 - t < 12
3t - t < 12 - 1
2t < 11
t < 11/2 (5.5)

3t + 1 < t + 12 Subtract t from both sides . this will eliminate 't' on the right hand side. we get
3t + 1 −t< t + 12−t
→ 2t + 1< 12 Subtract 1 from both side to eliminate 1 on te Right hand side. This gives
2t + 1−1< 12−1
or 2t<11 Divide both sides by 2 on both sides, we get
2t/2 <11/2
→ t < 5.5

2 t < 11

t < 11/2

the "<" can be treated as an equal sign so any variable or number that goes over it get's its sign changed. Like for example 1= 2-1, we have -1 on the right side, if we transpose (getting over to the other side over the inequality/equality signs like =, <, >) it to the left side, it will become +1 or just 1. So we now have a new equation 1+1=2, 2=2. Get it?

So, 3t+1 < t+12 can be, 3t-t < -1+12 or 3t-1t < 12-1. Basically, both are the exactly the same. Just want to make you understand a little bit.

So 3t-1t= 2t, 12-1 is equal to 11. We now have 2t < 11

If directions tell you to look for the value of "t", just divide both sides by 2 which is the numerical coefficient of what we are looking for so 2t/2 is t, and 11/2 = 5.5.

We now have t < 5.5, means t is not 5.5 but numbers that are larger than 5.5. Now it's a matter of just substituting the found value of t which are numbers larger than 5.5 to check if we got it right. Since it's t < 5.5 which means we can only choose numbers larger than 5.5 and up to check, like 6 for example. But no matter how large the chosen value is, it won't change a thing because it's only 1 variable.

So 3(6) + 1 < (6) + 12
>18 + 1 < 18
>19 < 18 = FALSE

So the equation is false since 19 is greater than (>) 18 and not lesser than (<) 18.

So we can come up with the conclusion that 3t + 1 < t + 12 is FALSE.

3t + 1 < t + 12
-t -t

2t + 1 < 12
- 1 - 1

2t < 11
divide 2 by 11

t < 5.5

hi x :)

i just did that in maths :)

3t+1<t+12
3t-t<12-1 - seperate letters and numbers
2t<11
2t/2<11/2 - divide both by 2 to get the letter on its own
t<5.5 - tada.....heres your answer

bring your letters over to the left and your numbers to the right, always remember to change the sign when you change side :)

if you have done normal equations (3t+1=t+12) it is very similar :)

hope i helped :) x

3t + 1 < t + 12
3t - t < 12 -1
2t < 11

t < 11/2
2010-06-01 6:10 pm
3t + 1 < t + 12
Take t over to the other side (left) --> so it will become -t
And take 1 to the other side (right) --> so it will become -1
3t- t< 12-1
2t< 11

Divide both sides by 2
t<11/2
t<5.5

Move all the variables to one side the constants to the other:
3t - t < 12 - 1
2t < 11
divide by two
t < 5.5
