Logan Wade Lerman (born January 19, 1992) is an American actor, known for his latest film, 2010's Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief. Lerman began appearing in commercials in the mid 1990s, moving to work in feature films and television in the early 2000s, when he starred on the series Jack & Bobby (2004-2005) and in the movies The Butterfly Effect (2004) and Hoot (2006). Lerman gained further recognition for his role in the 2007 western 3:10 to Yuma, as well as his work in the 2009 films Gamer and My One and Only.
Lerman was born in Beverly Hills, California. His mother, Lisa (née Goldman), works as his manager, and his father, Larry Lerman, is a businessman.[1][2] He has two siblings, Lindsey and Lucas,[3] and attended Beverly Hills High School.[4] Lerman is Jewish.[5] He grew up as a self-described "film geek", and a "black sheep" among his relatives, most of whom work in the medical profession.[6][4] His family runs the orthotics and prosthetics company Lerman & Son; his ancestors founded the company in Central Europe in 1915, and moved to the United States because of the Nazi regime.[2][7]
Lerman has stated that he had a passion for movies from a young age.[4][8] He appeared in commercials in the 1990s,[9] and subsequently made his film debut in 2000's The Patriot, playing William Martin, one of the children of Mel Gibson's character. The same year, he co-starred with Gibson again in What Women Want, playing Gibson's character as a child. Lerman's next feature film roles were in 2001's Riding in Cars with Boys and the 2004 thriller The Butterfly Effect, portraying younger versions of characters played by Adam Garcia and Ashton Kutcher, respectively.[10]
