used to是用表示過去的一些習慣或動作

I used to catch fish by net. (used to = 以前,曾經)

Did he use to take the underground to go to work?
他以前是否常常乘搭地下鐵路上班？
Used to 用於提問詞，例如「what」、「where」時，不一定用「did」。如果所問的事屬於主語(subject)，可以寫成：
What used to attract you most when you were traveling?
你以前去旅行時，甚麼東西最吸引你的注意？

如果所問的事屬於賓語(object)，必須在動詞前加did，例如：

　Where did you use to go when you traveled?

你以前外遊時，通常會到哪處去？

　請留意，這種問法暗示被問者今天的態度或行為已和以前不一樣。

前面加上be 表示已習以為常

另外，在used to前面加上 be構成的動詞，表示對動詞後的事物已經習以為常。上面說的used to用法，都是談過去的事。這裡說的be used to，卻表示由過去至現在一直都是這樣。

　I am used to noise of the traffic nearby.

我已經習慣了附近交通的噪音。

　這表示交通噪音不再對我構成困擾。
