戰機護航有甚麼作用?

新聞常看見報導指xx客機上有炸彈或狂徒等等,
某國就會派出戰機「護航」
其實,戰機能做些甚麼?
除了當客機有不尋常動作就發射導彈將之擊落外
根本就救不了人吧?
由此看來,戰機不是為客機護航,而是為保護地方監視客機才對?

Actually, you are only half correct. One of the purposeto have Fighter Escort is incase the Bogey (Non-identitifed Aircraft) turn Bandit (Hostile Aircraft), escort fighter are to shoot them down.

However, this is not the only reason.

Beside monitoring and make sure the bogey (The airliner) obey the course of action, the escort fighter also tasked with 1 major function is to establish visual sighting and Establish Direct Communication with the bogey.

The escort fighter need to visually ID the bogey and check if it is the bogey in question, then start to survey the situation, try and establish visual communication with the pilot of the bogey (Via hand signal cockpit to cockpit) and sometime relay important procedure regarding the current situation. Such as Security Emergency or Medical Emergency

There are many factor to bring a plane down during emergency, and sometime outside help is needed. Escort did just that, establish visual contact, initiate contact. If the bogey broke contact, then the escort fighter will need to shoot down the aircraft as a safety precaution.

樓主的見解是對的，因 在 911事件中恐怖分子是脅持民航機撞向建築物，造成重大傷亡；所以如發覺問題航機有意圖撞擊建築物時，在兩者取其輕原則下，所謂"護航"的戰機會先發制人擊落客機，以阻止大災難發生。
