Capacitance is an inherent property of an object. That is to say, any object, as long as it can hold static charges, possesses a capacitance. In fact, capacitance is a physical quantity used to measure how much charges that an object can hold. Therefore, a sphere, a ball, a piece of paper, a plastic ruler etc, all of them do possess capacitance.

A parallel plate arrangement is only a specific form of capacitor.

With the above understanding, it is apparent that when the two plates are separated wide apart such that they have no influence on one another, the capacitance of each of them would then be changed to that of a single plate. The capacitance formula, capacitance = charge/potential, still applies to a single plate capacitor.

From Earth 5900000000km
