We are no Cinderella. Would our dormitories abolish the curfew?
Does the university dormitory you stay in have a curfew?
We all know that students of our school risk eviction from the dormitory if they fail to return before the specified time a night for three times.
Students nowadays tend to return to dormitory later than before as some who are in the financial need to work after school can hardly return by midnight. A curfew means a deprivation of their rights to work.
Therefore, I strongly believe that the system of curfew and demerit points for late returners should be abolished.
The authorities of dormitories resort to various methods to deter students from returning late at night. That include notifying parents, adopting a demerit points system, and threats of eviction. All of these look like being done in the interest of students, but they turn out to hurt that of some. The curfew in effect prevents students who stay in a dormitory from participating in healthy campus activities and deprive them of something really important in campus life.
The authorities insist that the curfew is in place for the sake of students’ safety and the demand from parents and it is entirely out of the intention to protect students from any form of harm.
But we see cases where the curfew may cause harm on students. There are students who speed-drive on the road to meet the curfew. Some late returners who cannot find a safe place to spend the night might well choose to stay on the street. In these cases, the curfew has caused more harm to students than protecting them.

Conclusion
The matter of abolishing the curfew is a perennial subject of complaints by students and a headache for the university authorities. It looks like both of them are heading to nowhere.

It is because the universities cannot afford the responsibility of any harm on students that could be attributed to the absence of curfew. As such, if you find this system unacceptable to you, choosing not to stay in a dormitory may be the only way out for you.
