i just booked tickets to fly to california and back where i live round-trip. however, when i got my e-ticket it says "The airline is assigning seats at check-in". i bought tickets with my boyfriend and we ordered them together, but do you think they will seat us together on the plane?
thank you!

If you booked on the same itinerary as traveling together then they will attempt to keep you together. However, this usually means one of the seats will be a middle seat. Many websites allow you to log on and both view and change your seating arrangments online. One trick is to select a window and an aisle seat as that would make it more likely that you would get the entire row and if someone does happen to get the middle seat, you can offer to switch an aisle or window seat with them. If you do get the whole row to the two of you, you can put down the middle table and both use that for your drinks instead of using your own tables hence giving you both a fair bit more comfort.

Get there early to make sure you're not bumped. I suspect they overbooked. Either that or you've been flagged for extra screening at security.
It's rare you can't get a seat assignment when you book your ticket and if it's not what you want, you can go to their website and change it once you know your conformation number.
You might call them and ask a real person what gives - not that it will do any good, but it might.
