Countrywide settlement?

If you just got it now, and are being ask to return it now, then it is probably a scam.

For the settlement relating to mortgages:

In February, it was already too late for residents of Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming to submit claim forms. Forms for eligible borrowers in the District of Columbia, South Carolina, and Minnesota were supposed to be sent by the end of January 2010.

For the settlement relating to data and identity theft:
The earliest deadline to file a claim is October 18, 2010.

I would be very suspicious of anything asking for your social security number. I would contact Countrywide directly and ask them about this class action suit. It sounds like a "phishing" scam to get your personal data.

Did anyone else get the letter? it says "You received this notice in the mail because you have been identified as a Class Member."
my mom's wants to make sure this is legit because it's asking for our social security number and all that other crap... so did anyone else get this letter in their mail?
and are you filling out the form to get a settlement?

That company, CW Data Claims got shut down...see? If it smells like a scam, it probably is!
