Given: Specific heat capacity of water = 4200 J/kg/oC
Specific latent heat of fusion of ice/water = 334000 J/kg
Specific latent heat of vaporization of water/steam = 2260000 J/kg
Specific heat capacity of ice below 0 oC = 2100 J/kg/oC
Specific heat capacity of steam above 100 oC = 2100 J/kg/oC

1. A piece of 10 g ice at 0 oC is dropped into a cup of 0.1 kg water at 70 oC. Find the temperature of the final mixture.

2. A piece of 0.1 kg ice at 0 oC is dropped into a cup of 0.1 kg water at 50
oC. Find the temperature of the final mixture. Find also the amount of ice melted if the ice dose not completely melt.

✔ 最佳答案
1. Let T be the final temperature.
Hence, using the heat balance equation,
(10/1000) x 334000 + (10/1000) x 4200 x (T) = 0.1 x 4200 x (70-T)
solve for T gives T = 56.4'C

2. Heat given out by water = 0.1 x 4200 x 50 J = 21000 J
Heat absorbed by ice = m x 334000 J = 334000m J
where m is the mass of ice melted
Hence, 334000m = 21000
m = 0.063 kg

Since not all of the ice has melted, the final temperature of the mixture is clearly at 0'C
