a)Let the light intensity at the water
surface be L.

Let the required metres be x m.

L (1-2.5%)x=1/4L

0.975x=1/4

x=0.256m

b) Let the required metres be y m.

L (1-2.5%)y=1%L

0.975y=0.01

y=0.0103m
