If the dress is entirely black with no color accents, go for a smoky eye look, or even a cat eye or pinup look would work.

Since you have a black dress i wouldnt do dark on the makeup. Maybe a dusty pink would be very pretty or anything natural you want to look to dramatic. Really you can wear any color! If you are bringing a clutch or jewlery, you can match it to that color. You should bring gold-colored jewlery or a gold purse. Then make your eyes that color!
