Why there is a sudden change in pH at the equivalence point of the titration
curve?

The equivalence point is exactly a point that
number of moles of base = number of moles of acid




end point: when the indicator change its colour






weak acid + strong base (e.g. CH3COOH + NaOH)
When added NaOH contiuously, pH increases.
After a while, when the equivalence point is reacted, the excess NaOH cause the pH increase significantly due to its strong alkaline property.





weak base + strong acid (e.g. HCl + NH3)
When added NH3 contiuously, pH increases.
After a while, when the equivalence point is reacted, the excess
NH3 cause the pH increase slightly due to its weak alkaline property.
