「As」 通常係點用同點解?? (10分)

這題比較複雜, 先從as的用法說起.

請看下面這個句子:
There are as
many students in my class as
(there are) in yours.
我班上的學生人數和你班上的(學生人數)一樣多.
第
一個as是副詞, 修飾形容詞many, 第二個as是連接詞, 連接後面的子句. 括號部分表示可以省略.
這是[as...as...]的標準原始形態.

不過在應用上, 有可能出現這樣的省略型:
Her class also has as many students.
她班上的學生人數也(和你我班上的學生人數)一樣.
這個as一樣是副詞, 這個句子的完整寫法是:
Her class also has as
many students as mine and yours (do).

那[瑪莉班上的學生人數只有(你我班上的學生人數的)一半]怎麼說?
Mary's class only has half as many students.
這個as還是副詞. 後半省略的就不再重複了.

那[傑克班上的學生人數還不到(你我班上的學生人數的)一半]
怎麼說?
Jack's class has less than half as
many students.

現在回到版主的句子. 或許有前後文的存在, 所以原作者會寫出:
Less than half as many accidents
involving fireworks resulted from family parties.
這個as仍然是副詞, 接著把句子還原並分析結構:
Less than half as many accidents[主詞S.]
which involved fireworks resulted[主
要動詞V.] from
family parties.
[Less than half as many]這一大串形容詞是修飾主詞accidents.
[which(S.)
invoved(V.) fireworks]由關係代名詞引
導的形容詞子句, 也是修飾主詞accidents. 此
處並無分詞構句的結構.
[A result from B]: A導因於B, A是由B引起的.

所以整句的意思是:
與炮竹有關而導因於家庭聚會的意外事件的數目, 只有(前文
提到的意外事件的數目的)一半不到.

As = because 因為 (conjunction)
e.g As you were not in the office, I left a message.
As = 當.....時, 隋着
e.g As she grew older, she hained in confidence.
As =和.....一樣 (adverb)
As always, he said little.
