laid out 中的 laid 是 lay的過去式或過去分詞, 這方面來說兩者分別與一般的動詞現在/ 過去/ 過去分詞相同

然而, laid out還可以有其他用法:
eg1: The robber got laid out (用拳頭擊倒) by a cop.

eg2: That teenager was laid out after drinking lots of wine. ( 飲酒或服食毒品後極度興奮 )



問題2:
a.His store is opposite to mine.
b.He lives (x live x) opposite to me.點解一個用mine一個用me的分別?

a句意思是: 他的商店在我的商店對面。即是mine所指的是"我的商店", 而不是我自己, 用mine自然正確.

b句意思是: 他住在我對面.
這句重點是人對人.
如果將句子改成:
1.He lives opposite to my flat/ apartment. (Correct)
2.He lives opposite to mine. (Incorrect)
第二句錯在mine的意思完全不清晰, 到底是我的甚麼呢?


問題3:run out和running out的分別
run out 意思是"用完, 耗盡, 完全缺乏"
eg1: The grocery store ran out of fresh fruit.(完全缺貨)

running out則強調"即將耗盡"
eg2: We are running out of time. (時間無多)


問題4:province和provincial的分別用法
province(省) 是名詞
eg1: Guangdong is a province on the mainland.

provincial(省的, 與省有關的)是形容詞
eg2: Provincial governments(省政府) are supposed to strictly follow the instructions from the Central Government.
