很多人都以為 the 後面的字如果是 a、e、i、o、u 等響音開頭就要讀 "de"。其實這是錯的！The 是否讀 de 是視乎隨後的字的讀音。有些字雖然是響音開頭，但它的第一個字母不發音，所以讀出來時沒有了響音，這時它前面的 the 就不讀 de。

反過來說，有些字雖然不是響音開頭，但同樣它的第一個字母不發音，而第二個字母是響音，所以讀出來時有了響音。例如 honest 就是一個，它的第一個字母 h 不發音，第二個 o 是響音，所以 the honest boy 中的 the 就要讀 de。

你問的問題，MTR 中的 M 讀如 em，所以前面的 the 要讀 de。

vowel前要用an, 同the 要讀 thi
e.g. an unhappy childhood
e.g. a university
而MTR係讀 em, ti:, ar
em 係 vowel, the 要讀 thi
