A 29-year-old man who had been out of job for six months and had a bankruptsy order against him was charged with defraudnig the Star Ferry Company as he made false complaints three times within a day that the ticket vending machines failed to give out 2-dollar tickets after he put 20-dollar notes in them and demanded a refund. His fraud was discovered by ferry staff through surveillance TV when he attempted the trick the fourth time. Claiming not to have eaten for two days when he committed the crime and that he was too embarrassed to seek help from his family, the man pleaded guitly to fourth-level fraud at Kowloon City Magistrate, and was granted bail until sentencing on 31st of this month pending probation and community order reports.
