red wrigglers do not live in soil. You can get them in bait shops where people go fishing. I use my red wrigglers to make compost out of discarded veggies and garden waste. They nest in shredded up newspapers, and I keep them in a rubbermaid bin that has holes punched in the top, bottom, and all four sides.
Also here is a site (but you have a buy a lot of 'em) http://www.groworganic.com/item_GCO205_Redworms__Eisenia_Foetida_800120.html

for the amount you need, probably a fishing tackle and bait store. But if that doesn't work there is a place in coalmont Tenn called "Silverbait" that is a huge worm farm and they ship worms all over.

Try calling some of the sporting goods stores or bait shops listed in the phone book.

If you want red wigglers for composting, you cannot dig them out of the ground (they don't live there.) And you shouldn't go to a tackle shop, where you will get six worms in a cup. You need to buy them by the pound. A family of two needs one to two pounds of worms. Too few and the food will rot and they will likely die.

You may find them at a local farmers market. The internet is a good resource. Just goolge "composting worms," or "red wigglers." Or use this list of Eisenia fetida worm growers "Directory of Vermiculture Resources:by State in the U.S. and by Country:Worms, Supplies & Information" http://www.bae.ncsu.edu/topic/vermicomposting/vermiculture/directory-by-state.html

I thouught that this educational site on worm composting had particularly good information, and the links at the bottom are especially worth your time.
