It is because as the question said, 睡蓮的面積每天擴大一倍. So, if the 睡蓮覆蓋整個湖要48天,那麼它覆蓋半個湖需要47天, then in the next day, the amount of the 睡蓮 will double and be 覆蓋整個湖.
