When energy is given to the system, the molecule is vibrated accordingly, the hotter it is, the more vibration it process.

Energy can be given to the system by
1) heat, I.e. Use a fire and heat the object
2) fiction I.e. By moving two object against each other or kinetic energy work against each other and produce heat
3) chemically, I.e. A chemical reaction take place e.g. Glucose burn in air and produce heat energy
4) restrict the degree of freedom, as a result molecule is limited to vibrate, eg presurised a large vol of gas to a smaller volume of gas, the temp will increase!

There are many ways to increase the system temperature...
