English idioms, please help?

Hi, I am learning English.
Can you please tell me some of the most common English idioms, that every native speaker should know. The more the better, and please explain what they mean if you can.

Your question "boggles the mind" because there are "thousands upon thousands" of idioms in English. Could you give some examples of the type of thing you are looking for?

Burning The hour of darkness Oil ( up late at evening working annoying ... ) earlier that they had electric powered lamps, people used oil-burning lamps to study or artwork interior the darkness at evening. once you're working very annoying till late at evening you're "burning the hour of darkness oil."

to kick the bucket = to die

a steal = something that costs much less than it is really worth

about time = well beyond the time period when something should have been done

all out = complete

ball-park figure = rough estimate

close call = to barely escape from danger

everything but the kitchen sink = almost everything one can think of
