why is my internet explorer/google/chrome/firefox not working but online games are working?

Could be because browsers use different ports (HTTP, 80, I think, and another for HTTPS (secure sites)) on the router from those the games use and the browser's ports are being blocked. This could easily be by malware in an attempt to protect itself. Nobody finds out how to get rid of a virus by playing an online game.

So I'd investigate your firewall to see if port 80 is being blocked, and maybe run some anti-malware scans to see if there's something you need to get rid of.

If you are in the middle of an online game, you may need to exit the game before accessing the web browsers, because online gaming can take a lot of juice from your computer, leaving little power for anything else. You are less likely to run into a problem if you have a powerful dual core, or quad core computer. Rebooting your computer should give you a fresh start.

Sounds like you got hit with a virus that kills your browser. Run an anti-virus program(make sure it is fully updated).
