IIT or MIT which is good?

the other day i was thinking, what makes getting admission in MIT so difficult.......i mean i know its difficult and those selected are really brilliant........but just by SAT scores, interview, evalution forms, 12th grade scores......they get u in......no, there is got to be something else..isint it???
my real doubt is..........if a kid does well in school, has good impression on teachers, has good scores in SAT,has made his interviewer happy, then he is taken in........
u might think that all this is good.......but in India...things r a bit different for 11 and 12th graders.......look
those who opt for maths and science focus on IIT JEE (Indian Institue Of Technology-Joint Enterance Examantion)......which is really very very very hard........and its syllabus is also far more difficult than our school syllabus..........so 99% of IIT aspirants go to coaching for cracking the JEE..........as a result they neglect the school studies and their avereage in school comes down to like 85%...earlier the same child used to get above 95%....but these students perform well in coaching........and i have seen their aptitude really increasing.i mean they become more reasonable, analytical, fast.......

{just for your knowledge-JEE is very vey very very difficult than SAT........and i am not exaggerating}

as i told u that they neglect school......this does not mean that they are unaware of what being taught in school.....actually their knowledge increases to such an extent that they even know better than the school teacher............now u would certainly ask y is then there is a degradation in their average.....the reason is that in coaching they r being taught to solve numericals......tough numericals......and not to mug up the derivations.......which are usually flodded in school question paper........
if a child focuses on (indian)school education only for (11 and 12th ).....i am telling u he wont be able to touch the students going to coaching preparing for JEE..........

and thats what MIT demands.....it asks your 12th mid exam report........so if a non coaching goer performs well in (indian)school and with all the formalities he gets into MIT.........he gets in the best college in the world without actually having that much of aptitude as compared to those who get into IIT.........so whats the deal??? an avg. student getting into MIT and the deserved student not???

i know all this WILL SOUND u odd and absurd......u may even think i am a fool hoping to pass through the gates of MIT........but this is true....and this is the condition here.....MIT doesnt and would never ask for your coaching report!!.......

so my question was what makes getting admission in MIT difficult????
i know what i said above was wrong about average student getting into MIT.....only on the one with real brains can get through.....but then with the processes that MIT follows the things appears that way to me.......may be the condition in US is different..........students getting straight As are really good.......but u know this doesnt apply here....and i am confused with this......

pls dont u feel like i m saying MITians are dumbos......NO I AM NOT...they are BRILLIANT.......

please clear the doubt periously........i know MIT is best........i believe it.......

and ya before i go also tell me how to prepare for SAT physics and maths......i have no idea what types of questions come..........

thnx bye!!

I'm not really sure what you need to do to get into MIT. I know two incredibly smart seniors in my area: one achieved a perfect 2400 on the SAT and the other won 40K by winner several rounds of Jeopardy--yes, the same Jeopardy that airs on broadcast TV. Both applied to MIT. Both were rejected by MIT.

Part of the reason it's so hard is because so many people apply there, and a lot of them are extremely qualified, many overqualified. When you have so many strong applicants and so few spots available, some people who are clearly capable of thriving at MIT are inevitably going to get rejected; my advice would be not to take a rejection personally, but it does genuinely hurt to be told no by your dream school.

With regards to SAT preparation... hire a tutor, take an SAT prep class, buy SAT guides, take practice SATs, take the real SAT several times--that's really all I can say. I'm not a big fan of standardized testing myself; just because someone can bubble in the right circles in a given time doesn't mean they'll be successfully or, hell, that they even know how to tie their shoelaces--but if your heart's set on MIT you can always go elsewhere for freshman year and then apply to MIT again as a transfer applicant, which means less direct competition. Whatever you choose to do, I wish you the best of luck.

Both are good. But I prefer MIT because it's more international and can meet people from all over the world.

yes, most students who get in are brilliant, but they don't always get the best grades. there are even over one hundred students every year who are accepted that get Bs in high school. from what i've read, the people who get perfect 2400 SAT scores and are valedictorian don't get in because they're not passionate about anything. MIT looks for passion, intellect and drive in their students, not just the most impeccable application. SATs aren't as bad as they seem, just study up on your material, get a good nights sleep and have a healthy breakfast and you will do fine :) Good luck!

I think it depends on you. MIT is a global school. IIT on the other mostly has Indian students only. Second, you are having a misconception that MIT ONLY uses the SATs for admission. This is very wrong. MIT and other competitive universities in the US are now looking at the big picture and look at you from the whole perspective. And, I guess those entering MIT tend to do much better. They will have more glbal connections and tend to do slightly better. Of course, there are IIT graduates doing well as well. For a fact, the maker of BOSE speakers and accessories graduated from MIT in Electrical Engineering. And, those in MIT are really smart. They may have top SAT scores, but they tend to be top in everything as well . So, Im saying MIT is better.

First of all. The course of School Board Exams and IIT-JEE is nearly the same. Chapters are same . Theory is same(Except some). Only the level of questions increases which are from the same chapters. If you have clear concepts and know how to apply them, you can do well in JEE. As for MIT vs IIT, according to me, if you want good exposure, relaxed studies, fun, adventure, thrill and follow your passion along with other activities like theater, sports, etc., go to MIT, but if you want competition, full detailed concentration in a specific subject, without any deviation you should go for IIT

MIT is ranked top 10 in the WORLD whereas IIT is above 100.
To get into MIT, u need lots of ECA, good SAT scores, good SAT subject test scores, good TOEFL scores and doing AP exams is a plus. You literally need As in 11th and 12th grade to get in.
IIT- 10000 seats MIT- lets say less than 400.
Students from all over the world apply to MIT, students only in India 'appear' for JEE Mains and 10% of that for Advanced
