In brief, the zero point of the scale is set at the temperature of a mixture of ice, ammonium chloride and water. This is said to avoid negative number of temperature to appear in winter in cold countries. The 100 degree is said to base on human body temperature initially, but was refined to 98.6 degrees later on. Therefore, it can be seen that the Fahrenheit scale was set not based on the freezing point and boiling point of watwer .
