1st interpretation:
(2/3)y = - 6
y = - 6(3/2)
y = - 18/2 or - 9

Answer: y = - 9
-----------
2nd interpretation:
2/(3y) = - 6
- 18y = 2
y = - 2/18 or - 1/9

Question has to be presented in a clear fashion.

Will assume that you mean :-

(2/3) y = - 6 and NOT as given

2 y = - 18

y = - 9

2/3(y) = -6
2y = 3(-6)
y = -18/2
y = -9

2/3y= -6
3y= -6*2
= -12
y= -12/3
= -4
dats it

is it 2/(3y)=-6 or (2/3)y=-6

if it is 2/(3y)=-6

ans= -1/9

if it is (2/3)y=-6

ans=9

2/3y = -6
y∙2/3y = -6∙y
2/3 = -6y
y=-2/3∙6
y=-1/9
y≠0

You need to isolate Y, so divide both sides by 2/3

y = -6 / (2/3)

Dividiing by a fraction is the same as multiplying by its reciprocal, so

y = -6 * (3/2)

Simplified:

y=-18/2

y = -9

ambiguous, is this
(2/3)y = –6
y = –6(3/2)
y = –9

or is it
2/(3y) = –6
–18y = 2
y = –1/9

.

Well I think you mean 2/3 X Y= -6 if this is the case you divide -6 by 2/3 and that will give you y (-9)
