Sulphuric acid is a non-volatile acid (boiling point 338°C), while nitric acid is a volatile acid (boiling point 83°C).

Sulphuric acid is a non-volatile acid, which can be used to produce volatile acid. For example, nitric acid can be prepared by heating concentrated sulphuric acid with a nitrate salt (e.g. NaNO3).
NaNO3(s) + H2SO4(l) → NaHSO4(s) + HNO3(g)

Such property of sulphuric acid and its related reactions are out of the HKCEE syllabus since 1995.
