I highly recommend your son take spanish. The spanish population is growing enormously in fact the top twenty surnames in the US at least are hispanic or latin american. Spanish is becoming a huge part of the world, and although French is a beautiful language, your son is going to get much more out of spanish.
Of course, you and your son must make the final decision but this is my input.

Let him choose what he wants to speak. If he really wants to take French, than he'll be happier there than in Spanish and will want to become bilingual in the language he's passionate about. I'm in French, and I live in Houston where there's a high percentage of Spanish speakers, and I'm doing fine.
he should take spanish, i'm a spanish speaking person in new york and pretty much most of our population speaks spanish, every school i've gone to, churches i've visited, people i've met etc. Spanish is pretty much the basic latin language, after spanish it will be easier for him to learn italian and french, and besides in high school you get to choose again (depending on the school)
Hey,
It's good to see parents taking more interest in their kids education. Make him take Spanish, it's more fun to learn. I have taken French for a quite some time, and I never enjoyed it. It's gets really boring.
Spanish has a touch to it which makes it really interesting. It is also used in a lot of areas in Europe and majority of South America and some parts of the world. French is mainly used in France and the province of Quebec in Canada. Not that useful.
Show him the good points about it and convince him. Don't put too much pressure because that takes the interest away of learning a language. If he decides to learn French, support him in that. At least help him do good in French.
Hope this helps!
Im in 8th grade at the moment, and im glad to see that his school is offering spanish! I live in Ontario, Canada and we have to learn french but none of like it :P. However i do suggest he learn french because even though spanish is growing, it will never pay as high. Even though in your area spanish is common, french will help him more if he wants to work as an international- heck any type of worker. Because lot's of countries' first or second language is french (that's because it was an original french colony). Also, you should let him do what he wants because if he doesn't want to do spanish, he might not do well in his course. But he could always change if he doesn't like spanish/french what ever he chooses. French is very popular and has higher pay + your son probably isn't going to stay in your area forever. Hope you let him do what he wants so he can achieve his goals. (Nothing worse than a meddling parent)
For college it doesn't matter what language he takes, as long as he has at least two yrs of it in high school. Let him take french in 8th grade. He may find he doesn't like it. He can always do spanish in high school. Taking any language is never a waste of time.
Two more dollars at what being bilingual? who says he is always going to live where you do now? In Canada knowing French would be of benefit. This isn't that big of a deal. Concentrate on getting him into college.
Good thing Im not your kid. You seem like a shitty parent. It is his life. Maybe if you let him have freedom he wouldn't hate you
Spanish has more advantages, but let him take French. In my area there are also Hispanic people, but I am taking French and I'm having fun. He won't try as hard in Spanish as his wanted French, possibly.
Because, so much junior top faculties do not particularly present a further language except Spanish. At least proper now. But that is a well factor, on the grounds that he's going to get to gain knowledge of elementary Spanish now, that's valuable, and while he will get to top tuition, there will likely be extra offerings. Usually German is one in all them. But I do not believe it has something to do with announcing Germans are extra clever than different men and women. It all is determined by the individual.
This is a tough one. Only because your are going make him take something he doesn't want to. However, I have traveled a lot and have come to the conclusion that I should take a Spanish course myself. No matter where I have gone, I sometimes think Spanish is spoken more than English. I met a Canadian in Costa Rica last week and she spoke Spanish as well. Spanish seems to be the up coming language to learn. Sorry son...
