Number of electrons

Number of neutrons

X

16

16

18

Y

16

18

18

Which of the following statements is correct?
A. X and Y are atoms of the same element.

姐系Y系X2-因為X同Y系same element

Correct answer :A

Both of them are sulfur. Particle X is neutral atom(no electric charge), while particle Y is an ion( electric change there is -2). The electric charge of sulfur can be like this.

B

If they are different elements, like sulfur and chlorine, chlorine do not have this electric charge. And one of the number(protons/electrons)should be the same. If you keep same (argon have 18electrons.),but argon do not have this kind of ion,so it is wrong.
