Given that the length of rectangle is longer than 2 times its width by 1 cm, then : L = 2 x w + 1

Perimeter of the rectangle = 50
2 X (L + w) = 50
2 X (2 x w + 1 + w) = 50
2 x (3 x w +1) = 50
6 x w + 2 = 50
6 x w = 48
w = 8

So, L = 2 x w + 1
L = 2 x 8 +1
L = 17

Area of rectangle = L x w
= 17 x 8
= 136 cm sq.
