1. Work done by gas = arear under the curve in the P-V diagram
hence, work done = area of trapezium
= [3(Po) + Po].(3Vo - Vo)/2 = (4Po)(2Vo)/2 = 4Po.Vo
2. Let m be thw mass of water
using the heat balance equation,
0.5 x 900 x (200-20) = m.(4186).(20)
m = 0.9675 kg
(a) Heat abosirbed by wtaer and ice
= 0.1 x 334000 + 0.9675 x 4186 x T
where T is the new final temperature, and 334000 is the latent heat of fusion of ice
Heat given out by block
= 0.5 x 900 x (200-T)
hence, 0.1 x 334000 + 0.9675 x 4186 x T = 0.5 x 900 x (200-T)

solve for T gives T = 12.6'C

(b) Calculaton silimar to the above,
0.025 x 334000 + 0.8925 x 4186 x T = 0.5 x 900 x (200-T)
solve for T gives T = 19.5'C
