1. Electrostatic painting works on the principle of electrostatic attraction because unlike charges attract each other.
When the paint particles are released from the spray gun they are given a negative charge and since the item to be painted is positvely charged, the negative particles are attracted to it. This virturally eliminates overspray and allows for factory type finishes be applies on-site without risk of overspray to nearby objects.

2. Cars have a metalllic body, thus could easily be charged. This attracts charged spray particles.
