These two are considered "local" universities in Hong Kong. UST has a stronger Business School program, so academically UST has an edge over HKU, but the perception in big firms' eyes still sees not much in difference among the two regarding the quality of the program.
HOWEVER, networking-wise, there's a difference. UST is a relatively new school compares to HKU, so there should be more HKU alumni at the higher-rank position in those large financial institute compares to UST alumni. They have more saying on whom to hire for the company. When they look at the resume/CV, do you think they will lean toward the one from HKU or UST?
Also, people who currently work in these firms, which are located at or near Central area, tend to pick a program that's nearby their offices (especially for evening program). HKU's campus is close by Central (if the class is held ON main campus) You will meet a lot of classmates who can share some insight and information regarding the hiring situation.
