Kowloon - visit Temple Street at night. There are different local authentic cuisines to choose from: clay pot rice (lap cheong bow jai fan), oyster pancake (ho jai beng), salt and peppered prawns (Jiu yim lai lew ha).

Tsim Sha Tsui
Chung King Mansions - there are many Indians who hang out there and also many backpackers stop off there too.

Vertically opposite Star Ferry there is a new shopping mall but the exterior has kept most of its historic structure.

Hong Kong Island
There are some temples and second hand but authentic bric a brac shops along Hollywood road. Visit Lan Kwai Fong, especially at night, where there are a lot of bars. Most authentic is Sugar Babes, serving Korean food. Ask for Sam the Bar Manager, he will be ableto advise.

In Causeway Bay visit Victoria Park especially now there should be market stalls set up for the Chinese New Year. On Jan 31st experience the countdown there but it will be crowded. Sugar Street, just opposite the park has many Indonesian and Philippino shops. There is an Indonesian restaurant which is quite nice,cant remember hte name on top of my head.

Central - outside the council building there are Indonesian and Philippinos who hang out on their day off. Some also sell authentic food.
