In my opinion, the Canadians are real and know their roots. The Chinese knew from before the opening ceremonies they were going to steal Gold. And did. It was all a show. I suppose it is hard for a country who is so in debt to the Chinese to challenge them even on a game.

I think these ones were much deeper and personal.... HOWEVER, I think you have to understand Canadian nationalism and history in order to really "get" these ones.

In terms of effects Beijing was better by far. In terms of depth and symbolism, I would argue these ones were much better.

I would hate to say that I am 100% in DISagreeance with the rest, but I thought the open ceremonies was awful. I am a 7th generation Canadian, and I can tell you that all though the idea of representing our "multi-cultural" heritage is a good thing, we must remember that the WORLD is now thinking that Canada is not one country, but a hundred seperate countries in one. I grew up under one flag, signing one song, and living by one nations rules. Not having 100 songs for 100 seperate groups of people, and not living by 100 different sets of rules. Personally I feel that if we wanted to show the "backgrounds" of the people that live here than fine, but the idea that we welcome the world into our country by stating, " The people of Canada, and the people of the 4 first nations would like to welcome the world to Canada", is horrible. Why start and stop there? Why not, " the country known as Canada with the nations of the first nations, the nation of the quebecois, the nation of the scottish, the nation of the irish, the nation of the english, and so on and so on would like to welcome the world to this place we collectivaly call Canada."...........Just Horrible.

They were very impressive, but in a different way to Beijing--The Chinese cermonies were impressive just because of the sheer scale. The Canadian one was less expansive, but very well put together.

Vancouver because I understand my country's history more. I thought Beijing's was beautiful but after seeing the ceremony in my hometown, i've never been so proud to be a Vancouver citizen in my entire life.

I really didn't like it, but the budget was alot smaller then Beijing's. So given the price range, I think it was well worth the money.

As a Canadian I am pretty embarrassed. Someone dies, the natives are late, and the cauldron holding the flame doesn't work properly. The red mittens with the maple leaf on them are cool, but that's about it.

The Chinese really wanted to put on a show and the Canadians just want the medals and dont really care to be compared to Beijing. I think they should compare it to Torin or where ever the last Winter Olympics were because the Summer you can do more and its was outdoors.
