When you minus a negative it's like canceling them out to adding a positive number. So n-(-8_ = 12 is equal to n + (+8) = 12 so n + 8 =12 subtract 8 to both sides of the equation and you get n = 4.

Your answer is 4.

n - (-8) is EQUIVALENT TO n + 8.

4+8=12

12=n-(-8)
12=n+8 (2 negatives make a positive)
12-8=n+8-8
4=n
therefore n=4
