Today is 12 February. If a cheque is issued, the date is usually 12 February. However, if the date of the cheque is a date in the future say, 28 February. The cheque is then called a postdated cheque.
Stale cheque means a cheque no longer be honoured by a bank as the date of the issue is more than 6 months from todaya's date. You may have received this cheque 6 months ago when it was a valid cheque but not banked in for payment immediately. You have to ask the payer to exchange this for a current cheque now and presented it to the bank for immediate payment.
