我想你最不明白的地方，就是His becoming blind是甚麼東西來的；其實His becoming blind並沒有甚麼特別，這只不過是動名詞罷了！

如：He is very fond of reading novels.
這句的reading 也是動名詞，而novels就是這動名詞的受詞。

最後，你可能奇怪，為甚麼His becoming blind用his，而不用he，這只因為動名詞會用所有格（Possessive）作其意思上的主詞，如：I insisted on his going there.

We were very glad to hear of John's being alive.
