converting cubic centimeters to cubic meters is COMPLETELY different from converting centimeters to meters.

first, let's visualize the problem...
1000 cubic centimeters can be thought of as a box that is 10 cm * 10 cm * 10 cm
if we convert the lengths of the sides to meters we'd get a box that is .1 m * .1 m * .1m
if we multiply the sides of the box with the units of measurement that is meters we get a box that is .001 cubic meters

so how did we get from 1000 cubic centimeters to .001 cubic meters?
or...
what multiplied by 1000 is .001?

.001/1000 = .000001

so, to convert cubic centimeters to cubic meters we need to multiply it by .000001

an easier way to think of this is take the converting factor, .01, and take its cube
.01 * .01 * .01 = .000001

this can be done with any unit of length measurement
just remember if its a cube, take it to the 3rd power
if its squared, take it to the second power

just remember that cubic centimeters is NOT the same thing as a centimeter

1 meter x 1 meter x 1 meter = 1 cubic meter
1 meter = 100 centimeters
1,000,000 cubic centimeters = 1 cubic meter
1,000 cubic centimeters = 1/1000 cubic meter
= 0.001 cubic meter

its 0.001. All you do is divide by 1000/1,000,000
