two identical capacitors are charged in parallel isolated and are then conected in series with oppositely charged plates together . as a result of the change from parallel to series, which of the following properties of the combination is / are doubled
(1) the p.d across it
(2) the charge on it
(3) the capacitance
A.(1) only
B.(3) only
C.(1),(2) only
D.(2),(3) only

When 2 identical capacitors are connected in series, the resultant capacitance will be halved according to:

C' = C1C2/(C1 + C2)

So (3) is incorrect.

With them being isolated, their charges amount remains unchanged, so (2) is incorrect.

With them connected in series, the p.d. across the combination is the sum of individual p.d.'s, so (1) is correct since each capacitor has the same p.d.
