No. 世上沒有見到什麼詞就要加什麼式這回事! 請看以下例句:

1) The time now is eight o'clock! (你見到now, 但這是simple present)

2) I shall have completed my homework before I go playing football! (你見到 before, 但這是 future perfect)

3) When we arrived at the airport, the flight had departed already. (你見到already, 但這裡用了past perfect）

4) I am visiting the United States next month. (你見到next month, 但這是 present continuous)

5) Anna plays quietly while her mother is out for shopping. (你見到 while, 但這是simple present)

英文的 Tenses (時式) 是個很大的課題, 它的關鍵是你想表達甚麼才決定用甚麼時式. 而絕不是簡單的見到甚麼字眼就用哪個時式。你這樣問不單止無助於學好運用時式，更容易導致犯錯，而且到你自己寫作時，你還是會不知道要用哪個式．如果你是想看到一個句子時能分別它用的是甚麼時式，你應該看動詞(Verb)。因為 Tenses 就係變換動詞的遊戲。如果你只是初次接觸 Tenses, 那你可以先記著每個 Tense 個別的動詞模式, 例如現在進行式就是 is/am/are + ing. 如果你學了英文有一段日子但老是搞不清甚麼時候用甚麼 Tense, 就要先了解每個 tense 的作用和你想表達甚麼?

總的來說時式可以細分為十二個。雖然多但不難記：Present, Past, Future, 各自有 Simple, Perfect, Progressive 同 Perfect Progressive (註：Progressive 又叫Continuous)。 先和你談幾個現在時式，它們各自的用法大致如下：

現在式 (Simple Present)
1) 用於描述某個動作或事件，而該動作或事件發生在你正描述(說或寫)它的時候。e.g. He jumps over the bar.
2) 用於描述一般性的事實。e.g. The sun rises from the east.
3) 用於描述習慣性的動作或事件。e.g. Our school hosts the sports day annually.
4) 它甚至可以用來描述即將發生的事。e.g. The plane arrives in 10 minutes.

現在進行式 (Present Progressive)
1) 和 Simple Present一樣描述當下發生的事, 但強調其延續性。e.g. She is dancing on the floor.
2) 描述將來發生的事, 而其發生的機會是相當高的, 即計劃中的事情。Dora is having lunch with me tomrrow.

現在完成式 (Present Perfect)
1) 用於描述過去發生而一直持續到現在或剛剛完成的事。並且它是有強調過去發生的某事影響及至現在發生的事情的意思。 e.g. 1) Jimmy has not finished his homework so he has to stay after school today.

過去式: yesterday, last week, last moth, a specifc date
I saw Peter yesterday.
I met Mary on 1 January 2010.



將來式: a specific date in the future, tomorrow, next week
You will be fired next month.
I shall go to the USA tomorrow.


現在進行式: now
I am doing my homework now.



過去進行式: while
I was doing my homework while my sister was singing in the sitting room.


現在完成式: already
I have finished my work already.


過去完成式: before, after
I had met John before I went to school.
After I had met John, I went to school.

使用哪個tense，不是單單看有沒有某一個英文字，而是明白每一個tense的使用方法。
