who is better sabathia or beckett?

Sabathia 136-81; 3.62ERA in regular season
Beckett 106-68; 3.79ERA
Sabathia 5-4; 4.40ERA in postseason
Beckett 7-3; 3.07ERA in postseason

Sabathia has 1,646 K's lifetime to Beckett's 1,429.

So Sabathia is better regular season, but Beckett is better in the post-season.

As a Red Sox fan, my unbiased opinion is CC. But, look for Beckett to have another 07-like season. Especially since he isnt taking all the pressure from being the ace. Sure he is the number 1 guy, but he has two other aces going 2/3 right behind him.

CC has been the better pitcher of late. Beckett historically has been better in the post-season, though CC seemed to put a stop to that last season.

I'd give CC the advantage on this one. But one thing to keep in mind is that this is a contract year for Beckett; if he has a 2007-like season, he's in line for some big bucks in free agency. So Beckett is certainly more motivated to perform this year than he has been the past couple of seasons. I expect Beckett to have a really good year and give the Red Sox no choice but to try and re-sign him for another 5 years or so.

As everyone else has said, Sabathia is the better pitcher.

CC for sure. Beckett has had only 3 great seasons in his career, CC has had 3 consecutive great seasons.

CC is overall, but I'd take Beckett over CC in the playoffs.

Sabathia, definitely. Jon Lester is better than both of them though.
