Insurance? Renting a car?

Hi, this is my first time renting a car. I reserved a car from Enterprise to be picked up at the airport this Thursday. It's like $15 a day. I owned a car in the past and, of course, had car insurance. Now, I don't have a car. When I pick up the car at Enterprise, what should I do with the insurance? I don't think you can drive a car without insurance, right? How much does it cost?

Enterprise has its own insurance for its cars, or qualifies for a waiver of some sort, so you can drive the car legally even if you do not have insurance of your own. However, if you crash, you may be responsible for the cost of the car (or repairs), plus loss of use, plus anything for which someone who was not in the car sues. When you rent, they do other waivers and coverages, but these cost extra, and may cost more than $15 per day.

Somebody mentioned checking your credit card for rental coverage. Be aware most credit card policies cover collision damage, but not liability, or replacement transportation. You have to check your policy booklet that came with your credit card, and probably protect yourself by buying damage cover from Enterprise.

You should buy their insurance. The cost? A bit pricey but It is necessary. To save a few bucks, ask your credit card company if they provide any coverages? Most provide collision Damage Waiver (CDW) insurance free when you use their card to pay the rental fees.

Either buy the insurance they offer when you pick it up or TA DAH! Call your Visa card holder and see if they pick up rental insurance. Most do! It's a little know thing but use it if you can.

Correct most insuarance companies go off of your insurance plan, that way if you are in an accident your insurance covers their vehicles. Just give them a call.
