Hidden fee? rent a car?

Airport rentals contain a lot of extra tax and fees.  If the rental car company is on site at the airport it's ussually an additional 12% plus there's excise tax and usually a convenience fee.  Then the city takes it's share from the rental car companies (it's easier to get re-elected if you tax travelers flying in) Unfortunately the rental companies don't have any choice in most of these fees that's why everything cost more at airports. As a rule of thumb you should expect 25-40 percent in taxes and fees to rent at an airport no matter witch company you choose.  There are also other charges for people renting under 25, additional drivers, and sometimes milage, bit these charges will be clearly stated on the web site and the rep before they are applied. Also with any rental you can expect a deposit usually the amount plus $150.

Also insurance. If you have car insurance find out if they cover rental. Some credit cards also have some kind of insurance, but you have to use the credit card to pay for the rental.

Don't let it get scratched and fill it up with fuel before turning it in and you should be fine.

Read the contract

There are lots of things you can be dinged...

* Did they say they'll give you the gas in the tank? Or are you supposed to refill it (or they'll refill it at a higher price)?

* Are you old enough? (at least 25) Underage drivers may be charged more

* Any additional drivers? Extra fees

* Will you need insurance? (three levels: liability, collision, and internal contents, each is extra fee)

So on and so forth.
