chem bonding (hydrogen bond)

thanks

Each HF contains one F atom of one H atom. Each F atom can form at most 3 hydrogen bonds, but each H can form only one hydrogen bond. If an F atom form 3 hydrogen bonds with 3 H atoms, there will be 2 F atoms in 2 other HF molecules do not form hydrogen bond. This is energy unfavoured.

It is because when the fluorine atom bond to one more hydrogen through the hydrogen bond, there may have a large electron density within that region and may result in a large replusion and cause the bond to break.
