ALL Math is "assumed" as Base 10.
with full "SigFigs" in your answer, then it is indeed, 12.231

= 12.01 + 0.11 + 0.111
= 12.12 + 0.111
= 12.231

I think you are doing binary arithmetic.
11 + 1 = 100
0.01 + 0.11 = 0.001
0.001 + 0.111 = 0.1101
So the answer is 100.1101
11 + 1 = 100
0.01 + 0.11 = 0.001
0.001 + 0.111 = 0.1101
So the answer is 100.1101
